First Take...agenda setting...

I hope every one agrees that one can never compare apples with oranges. Nevertheless, the measurement of development in this world seems to the contrary. Various multilateral agencies and "development" oriented bodies World Bank, IMF, UN (collectively termed as "Bretton Woods Institutes") seems to try to justify this stance (although their perspecitve has started to change...lately).

I always had this feeling that this is NOT the right apporach. I found a strong support (and niche to hide) in the encouraging words of Amartya Sen. I would like to see how can we really "measure" the development. some of the themes set in for discussions are: the meaning development, development vs growth, qualitative vs quantitative approaches, the "right" vs "wrong" or to say..the appropriate vs inappropriate, aspects of "measurement" etc.

I would try posting my views, although I am new to the world of blogging and perhaps "naive"...I would like to make an honest beginning at least....and see where this goes.
